Women India Award

Mittal Gohel

Mittal Gohil is a social-sector leader, institution builder, and advocate for women-led rural development, with over 12 years of experience building and scaling organisations, developing strategic partnerships, and strengthening governance systems that create sustainable social impact. As the Executive Director of Desai Foundation Trust, Mittal leads organisational strategy, governance, partnerships, and growth across programmes operating in eight Indian states. She works closely with CSR partners, philanthropies, community organisations, and institutional stakeholders to design and scale sustainable development initiatives that improve the lives of rural communities. Throughout her career, Mittal has played a pivotal role in strengthening nonprofit institutions—from establishing new organisations to expanding their reach across multiple states through strategic planning, organisational development, and effective programme execution. Her expertise spans leadership development, governance, partnership building, organisational transformation, and scaling impact. A significant part of her leadership has been centred on creating greater opportunities for women and girls. She believes that confidence, education, access, and economic opportunity can transform lives, and that sustainable development begins by investing in people and strengthening communities. Through Desai Foundation Trust’s programmes, including Asani, Mittal champions approaches that place women and communities at the centre of development. Asani’s work in menstrual health demonstrates how a social challenge can be addressed not only through access to essential products and health education, but also by creating livelihood opportunities and enabling women to become agents of change within their communities. Mittal is also a frequent speaker at national conferences, CSR forums, and sector dialogues, where she shares practical insights on nonprofit leadership, women’s empowerment, philanthropy, and cross-sector collaboration. Her leadership is rooted in the belief that meaningful social impact requires strong institutions, committed partnerships, and solutions that can be sustained and scaled. Her journey reflects a commitment to building stronger nonprofit institutions, expanding opportunities for rural women and girls, and creating partnerships that translate vision into measurable and lasting social impact.
