Prachi Kagzi is one of India’s most pioneering business leaders in the timber and forestry industry — a sector historically dominated by family-run male enterprises across the world. As the driving force behind Megamet, she transformed not only her company’s trajectory, but also reshaped the dynamics of India’s timber trade.
Beginning her professional journey in investment banking in Mumbai, Prachi later moved into the plastic packaging manufacturing industry, where she successfully ran and exited a manufacturing business through a stake sale after nearly a decade.
In 2014, Prachi identified a major gap in India’s timber supply chain and pioneered large-scale imports of kiln-dried (KD) sawn timber into Maharashtra. Despite skepticism from international suppliers, she strategically positioned Mumbai’s Nhava Sheva port as a major timber hub and helped decentralise India’s timber industry.
Her customer-first innovation strategy transformed Megamet into a trusted solutions provider rather than merely a supplier. By expanding SKU offerings, improving supply reliability, and introducing ready-to-use kiln-dried timber, she revolutionised how timber was distributed and consumed in India.
Under her leadership, Megamet emerged as India’s largest distributor of sawn timber, warehousing over 20,000 cubic meters of inventory at any given time and scaling operations pan-India. The company today sources timber globally and supplies customers across India, the Middle East, and the Far East.
Prachi’s journey is especially significant because she broke gender barriers in one of the world’s most traditional industries. She became a visible symbol of leadership and transformation within the global timber ecosystem, inspiring women to enter industries previously considered inaccessible.
Deeply committed to sustainability, Prachi ensured Megamet focused exclusively on timber sourced from sustainable forestry practices, aligning business growth with environmental stewardship and responsible sourcing.
