Women India Award

Khushbu ganatra

Born with Spina Bifida, I have navigated complex health challenges and over 30 surgeries since childhood. Unable to attend formal school, I pursued self-education before completing my higher secondary studies through Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University. My lived experience became the foundation for my life’s work: transforming personal adversity into systemic social change for persons with disabilities, particularly women. My journey began through community initiatives, public speaking, and para-sports, where I won 35+ national medals. When health limitations slowed my athletic career, I redirected my efforts toward social impact and system building. I founded EqualEdge Global Association, a Section 8 non-profit dedicated to strengthening the rights, healthcare, well-being, and financial independence of persons with disabilities. For me, inclusion goes far beyond physical ramps—it requires addressing chronic healthcare, pressure injuries, mobility, daily care, and mental well-being. In 2024, I represented India at the World Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Conference in Malaysia, and in 2025, served as an International Brand Ambassador for International Purple Fest Goa. I have also raised awareness on mainstream platforms, including Sony TV’s Superstar Singer Season 2 and inclusive campaigns with actor Akshay Kumar. Alongside EqualEdge, I provide consultancy to organizations, translating ground realities into practical, dignity-first solutions. My long-term goal is to build a specialized healthcare-navigation ecosystem across India so adults with complex disabilities can access timely support without navigating health crises alone. I am applying for the National Women’s Award to amplify this mission: ensuring every woman and individual with a disability can lead a healthy, independent, and dignified life.
